The Millennial Generation

The generation on campus now has been dubbed the “mosaic” or “millenial” generation.  With my Iphone permanently attached to myself, I am the Millenial poster child.

Here are some key things to know about us:

BONUS: Quiz at the end! Comment with your results!

Millenials are:

1- Diverse

2-Simmilar

With technology so readily at our finger tips, the world is a much smaller place- making alot of us alike.

3- Spiritual

We’re not nessecarily traditionally spiritual, but we’re very open to the spiritual realm.

4- Relational

We love other people and value emotion highly.

5- Nurtured

This generation has been parented closely by well meaning parents.

6-Postmodern

As a cultural movement, it’s a “tendency to reject absolutes- moral, logical, religous, whatever.”

WOW! From this list you can see we are a whole bunch of contradictions- relational yet isolated by technology

totaly diverse yet very similar

wanting to change the world- with the help of our mom and dads.

This puts about a unique set of challenges on the campus- but I think things are in our favor! Chi Alpha is all about relationships- bringing people in & making it safe to explore Christianity. A generation open to spirituality is also a plus! I have rarely had a friend on campus turn down an offer of prayer. My friends are amazed rather than skeptical when I tell them stories of miraculous healings or powerful prayer times.

Most importantly, we have God on our side! Psalm 33:11 says “But the plans of the Lord stand firm, forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”

I recently found an online quiz that PewResearch called “How Millenial Are You?” But really it will tell you how simmiar you are to any generation- no matter if you’re 6 or 60! You can take it here. Post your results in the comments- I’d love to see where you land!

73+ is Millenial…I got a 70. With a tattoo or a piercing, I would have jumped over the mark :).

So will you pray for our generation?

*That our spirituality would be wrapped up in what’s in the Bible

*That we would desire real relationships that exist without a screen

*That we would, in fact, change the world.

I got a 33! HAHAHAHA, I was basically born 60 years too late. Or will I lead a sweeping revolution, restoring the softness and disdain for logic of the millennial generation to its former glory?!
